She has contributed to such magazines as New York, Salon, and More and has produced radio stories for NPR’s Here and Now, The Pulse and WNYC's The Leonard Lopate Show.

She was a Knight Journalism Fellow with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, during which she traveled to Kenya and Alaska to study disease outbreaks.  She has served as a judge for the Society of Professional Journalist's award for excellence in radio.

Cary has published short stories in Natural Bridge and Full Circle Journal. Her story We Don’t Wear Shoes in the Ashram was nominated for a Pushcart Prize. She has published personal essays in Backpacker and AMC Outdoors magazines and is at work on a novel.

Cary has moderated live interviews with authors around NYC and beyond at The Brooklyn Book Festival, Greenlight BookstoreBarnes & Noble and more.

She has an M.A. in literature from the University of Massachusetts and a B.A. in literature from Lafayette College.
